Therapy Camp in Pärnu County
On 14 and 15 June, for the third time, a nationwide communication therapy camp for children living in shelters was held in Pärnu County, organised by the SEB Charity Fund. Children came to the camp from Harju, Tartu, Pärnu and Ida-Viru Counties.
Sessions were conducted by creative therapists Kulla Mänd and Anneli Liivamägi. Children living in shelters have more often than not experienced serious problems in their lives that are difficult to cope with. Therapy sessions in small groups assure children that they are not alone with their troubles and that their peers have similar concerns. Simply pouring out their feelings has a therapeutic effect.
Children can also express themselves through art: with the help of volunteers those attending made glass and porcelain paintings and jewellery items and drew a large picture together. According to tradition, the camp included a cake-baking competition and an outdoor barbecue party. The children were also able to play sports, fish, play board games and dance to disco music until the late hours, all in the name of having fun.
At the end of the camp we asked the children what they liked most about the event and they all answered: “Everything!”
