The Christmas wish tree is made up of the dreams and wishes of children in shelters and substitute homes, sent to Santa Clause. To make sure that these do not just remain dreams, pick a gift from the Christmas tree and make a donation to the best of your ability.

Hundreds of children took part in the children’s races of Tartu Marathon

On the Saturday before the grand skiing event, the Tartu Marathon, children’s races took place on the mini marathon courses in Tähtvere Park.

One hundred and fifty children from substitute homes and safe houses also started on the skiing course and covered courses of 540 metres to 5 kilometres on the “Tiny race” and “Mini marathon” distances. There were children from Tallinn, Pärnu, Harju County, the City of Tartu and Tartu County, Viljandi County and Sillamäe, Narva and Kiikla in Ida-Viru County.

Many children tried skiing for the first time in their lives this winter. Even the littlest skiers – the youngest skiers were three years old – showed their skills on the course and stood out with their great will. Before the start was given, quite a few children were certain that they would bring home their very first medal. Five year old Nora, from Harju County, said: “I already have a spot for the marathon medal on my bedside table. I will go to kindergarten on Monday, with the shine of my medal dazzling my teachers!”

Under the leadership of the Fund, children from substitute homes and safe houses took part in the children’s races of the marathon already for the third year in a row.
