The Christmas wish tree is made up of the dreams and wishes of children in shelters and substitute homes, sent to Santa Clause. To make sure that these do not just remain dreams, pick a gift from the Christmas tree and make a donation to the best of your ability.

Give the gift of happy feet!

For many people, badly made and badly fitting shoes are a lifelong reminder of a poor childhood. And sometimes all it takes to ensure that someone has a brighter future full of happy memories is one small step – which is why we’re raising money to buy new shoes for kids all over the country. Because there are kids in Estonia who are deprived of parental care and for whom the only obstacle to a better life truly is a decent pair of shoes.

Today, International Children’s Day, sees the launch of the 11th SEB Heategevusfond /Charity Fund/ campaign, with our aim this year being to raise enough money to cover the cost of purchasing 500 pairs of brand new shoes for children from shelters around Estonia. Running around outside in the fresh air is an integral part of growing up for every child, and to make sure that they get the most out of the great outdoors, all year round, this campaign will see 500 pairs of footwear purchased for kids in children’s homes – boots, galoshes, sandals, trainers and more.

Orthopaedic specialist Dr. Mihkel Mardna says that the number of children suffering from foot problems is growing every year. The cause is often shoes that are the wrong size for their feet or simply poorly made. And at the time in their lives when they are growing quickest it is important to ensure that the shoes they wear are the right size and do not hinder normal anatomical and biomechanical development.

Wearing proper footwear when running around and playing sports, as well as in everyday life generally, is not only important to the development of children’s feet, but to their bodies as a whole. Well-made shoes contribute to proper skeletal development, and help make children aware of the value of their feet and of themselves, too.

As part of the campaign, which will run until the end of July, we are inviting people to enter into a standing order or make a one-off donation to the SEB Heategevusfond account (no. 10001000100012). You can also show your support by buying running shoes from Sportland Running – €5 from every pair bought during the campaign period will go towards helping shelter kids. There is also a donation line (900 5005), calls to which are charged at €3. The campaign will run until the end of July, with the total amount raised being announced on 31 July 2011.

Put the shoe on the other foot and do your bit to help kids from shelters. Everyone wins when friends lend each other a helping hand!
