Children to play Spain as the winner of the U-19 EURO 2012 (video added)

In cooperation with the Estonian Football Association, SEB Charity Fund organised a football day in Haapsalu, where children from shelters tried via a mini tournament to predict who will win the U-19 EURO 2012 this Sunday. According to the predictions of the children, Spain will be the winner.

At the prediction contest, the favourites of the tournament measured up against each other and the children playing as the Spanish team emerged as the winners. On Sunday, it will be clear whether the prediction holds water.

Teet Allas, a former member of the team and the current youth projects manager in the Estonian Football Association: “The Spanish youth team has been playing very well right from the beginning of the current tournament. The children and young members of the Spanish team who participated in the sports day have definitely been inspired and motivated by the fact that the Spanish men’s team is both the reigning European and world champion. The game of football helps to teach tolerance and consideration towards others, which are some of the most important things in everyday life!”

In addition to the prediction contest, the children from shelters had another important role to play – before the quarter finals, they were the ones who carried the national flags of the teams onto the football fields. This gave the young football fans an opportunity to take a closer look at the inner workings of the tournament held in Haapsalu. 12-year-old Siim K., from Tartu County, shared his experience: “It was really cool to do something so important; practicing was easy and I wasn’t nervous afterwards, either! I’d really like to be a ball boy at a stadium. Then I could see great men play more often from close up – they’re great role models for me!”
