Auction of Apple computers supports the children at children’s homes

This year, MTÜ SEB Heategevusfond (SEB Charity Fund) arranged its third annual charity campaign, to fulfil the wishes of more than a thousand children without parental care and the needs of foster homes.

Wishes for Christmas presents, posted on the Christmas tree in the Delfi online environment, were fulfilled at incredible speed – with the help of donations made by good people, all children staying at Estonian children’s homes and shelters this year will find what they whispered into the ears of their educators as a present in Santa’s bag.

Computer auction of DDB Eesti AS and Klaar OÜ

While the children’s smaller and slightly bigger wishes were fulfilled quickly, some the needs of foster homes could not be fulfilled due to the lack funds as of last week. Upon noticing it, the advertising agency DDB Eesti AS and a new player in the market of the sales and maintenance of Apple computers, Klaar OÜ, decided to jointly support the Christmas present project of SEB Charity Fund. They found a nice way to make their contribution to a good cause and also to help to fulfil the Christmas wishes of foster homes. DDB Eesti gave away some of its computer park, and Klaar OÜ cleaned and tuned up 13 computers which were put up for sale in the environment. Thus, the new owners of Apple computers, which were put up for sale at a good price, will participate in fulfilling the Christmas wishes of the children at foster homes.

The revenue to be generated from the sale of computers will be used to fulfil the dreams and wishes of children without parental care, arranged in collaboration between SEB Charity Fund and Delfi.

Help to computer elves by their families

DDB Eesti’s partner and CEO Jana Koppel says that the decision to support the children at children’s homes through the SEB Charity Fund was propelled by the transparency of the project – when making a donation, it is good to know who will be supported and how it will be done. Children without parental care are a socially sensitive topic, prompting contemplation of the issue and, if possible, the extending of a helping hand. The initiative launched among a smaller group of people quickly gained wider acceptance and unanimous support both from DDB as well as from Klaar. As the daily work of the advertising agency requires constant upgrading of both hardware and software, choosing the computers to be given away from its computer park was very pragmatic for DDB.

Four people, whose job is maintenance of Apple equipment, started to fine-tune the computers during their free time. They spent all of their free moments during regular work hours to fix up the computers. They naturally had to put in several cosy late night hours, and the beloved family members of the elves’ workshop technicians also contributed to it with their understanding of the cause. It is the support and love of the family members which helps to better understand those who lack such support.

Helping those in need is self-evident

Both Jana Koppel and Heiti Kender believe that helping those in need is self-evident:
“It is nice to be involved in charity projects which will bring a smile to the faces of many people involved in the project. It is not that difficult – sometimes very little is needed to bring a smile to the face of a child or family in need, not to mention the giver!”

The aid need not be material; one can simply bring joy to others. This may take the form of handing out class certificates or giving a lecture, believe Jana Koppel and the CEO of Klaar OÜ Heiti Kender.
